This course focuses on the key product of an evaluation: the evaluation report. In this course, students will learn best practices for effective and creative report specific to evaluation reports. Learning points and practical exercises are combined to develop skills in putting together an effective and engaging evaluation report.
The course comprises of reading materials, video lectures and practical exercises to ensure practicality of the knowledge acquired. Case studies throughout the course are used to ensure the hands-on approach and development of practical skills in report writing. Checklists, tips, and templates are provided to the students for usage in their own report writing.

A Guide for Practitioners
This course provides a novel way of looking at the practice of Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E). The question “what difference are we making”– as an individual, project, programme, organisation or network, is increasingly important whether for learning or accountability. The course lays out the challenges, introduces a tool-box of techniques and shows where these can be best applied through practical strategies and case studies. M&E are viewed as critical to all stages of a policy or programme development. Ways of promoting early participation and the engagement of key stakeholders are explored and benefits and risks assessed. This lays the ground for M&E to make vital contributions to incentivising change and measure performance. In later sections techniques to measure impact and enable learning are provided.
This course centres on a crucial issue for evaluators and potential evaluators: how to be a successful evaluation consultant? Over five modules, guidance and advice is provided on how to set-up as an evaluation consultant and effectively find work, as well as how to manage, diversify and grow a successful evaluation consultancy. The course is taught by a trainer who has effectively managed his own consultancy since 10 years. Through practical exercises, presentations and case studies, participants will learn and develop key strategic and “soft” skills for becoming a successful evaluation consultant. This course is part 1 and complemented by a second course which focuses on management and technical issues.
This course focuses on management and technical issues essential for becoming a successful evaluation consultant. Students will understand legal, tax and financial planning issues and acquire project/team management skills. Budgeting, cash flow management, setting a rate and some tax issues are covered in this part. Students will also learn to write proposals for winning business and to use tools to support efficient management of evaluations, teams, partners and clients. Through practical exercises, presentations and case studies, participants will learn and develop management and technical know-how essential for becoming a successful evaluation consultant. This course is complementary to part 1 which focuses on more strategic and “soft” skills.

Issues such as how to set-up as an evaluation consultant and effectively find work, how to manage customers efficiently and to diversify and grow an evaluation consultancy, as well as legal and financial planning issues, proposal writing for winning business and efficient management tools are covered in the course.
This course considers some of the challenges that evaluators and evaluation managers face when striving to have an impartial evaluation of a programme. It will focus on the humanitarian and development contexts where it has been less openly discussed. Although there are certainly political factors stemming from ideological and policy debates that can affect the “success” of an intervention, this course will particularly focus on how the “political” interests of the various partners involved can influence the evaluation process. It will then go on to look at what measures can be taken to address these potential threats and protect the professional integrity of the evaluator and the contract manager.
This course brings together the two exciting new areas of Real Time Evaluation (RTE) and Adaptive Management (AM) which combine to offer huge potential for the M&E practitioner, particularly in complex and uncertain environments. What exactly is an RTE/AM approach and how can it help to learn quickly in unstable or conflict-affected situations? Do M&E practitioners need to ditch their standard approaches and what can you do if there is no counterfactual or dataset? This course covers these challenges and more. It lets you see how to provide timely insights to steer programmes and projects.
